Release of Subarna Saikia's Book 'Paribartan' in Sivasagar

Our News NE, 16th Sept: On September 15, Paribartan (Change), a collection of short stories by 87-year-old author Subarna Saikia, was officially released at Purana Amolapatty Gohain Gaon in Sivasagar.

Releasing the author's debut book—published by the Kalanchupar Branch Sahitya Sabha—President Suryakanta Das stated that each story offers a unique flavor. He noted that set against social, spiritual, and familial contexts common to almost every Assamese household, the stories will touch the hearts of readers. He further remarked that an inquisitive reader will grasp the depth of the author's message regarding how modern Assamese society has unwittingly abandoned its traditional culture in favor of so-called modern culture.

Publishing Secretary Amulya Baruah mentioned that the author began writing in 2006 for Milanjyoti, the souvenir of the local Namghar, managing to pursue her creative work alongside kitchen duties. He expressed joy that those magazine stories have now taken a permanent form in this book. Likheswar Baruah described Subarna Saikia as an inspiration for women, commending her dedication to writing while managing family responsibilities.

Jayanta Madhav Gogoi, Principal of Betbari Higher Secondary School, highlighted the strong realism in her work, noting that every story carries a message for society. He added that everyone should aspire to leave a lasting contribution to society and praised the author's sons for serving their mother in the truest sense by encouraging the publication. Prashanta Gogoi, Secretary of Rangpur Sahitya Sabha, commended the author's skill in setting scenes and noted that the book reflects her rich creative mind.

Becoming emotional while sharing her feelings, the author expressed that inspiration from various individuals gave her stories book form. She shared that their constant encouragement has kept her writing to this day, citing Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaroa’s words—"You keep writing; even if nothing else happens, something will come of it"—as a primary source of motivation.

The event, which was also addressed by Gobin Rajkhowa and Kalanchupar Branch President Prashanta Borgohain, was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Swarna Burhagohain and Krishna Rajkhowa.
